Old A. Zildjians large stamp

I am very fond of the old Avediz cymbals from the 50:s. The large stamp block lettering cymbals from the mid 50:s are my favourites. As You can see, i prefer the big cymbals and i have first a "24" cymbal and then 3 total different "22" cymbals and finally an "18". These cymbals have a dark shimmering sound and each cymbal sounds total different from the others in the same size. Very versatile instruments from the old "handmade days" in the Zildjian factory!

Yes, the 40-50 Zildjians are really something special! I have never owned one, but played a few. Dark, "silky" and slightly complex sound qualities. When you play a modern Zildjian you begin to wonder how and when everything went wrong. Well, to be fair I have heard a lot of good words about the new 24" Light Ride and also about the 22" Dark Medium. So, maybe they are finding their way back to something interesting again. Back to vintage again: What about the 40s Avedis "trans stamps"? To tell from recent ebay ads, they seem to go for good dollars. Are they worth it? // Rog

Yes absolutely! I have some cymbals from that era too. They are expensive but the good examples are like the turkish K:s and made in the same hand -hammering style. You can beat them hard or soft but You will allways get a smooth, dark and buttery sound. I use them booth in small groups and Big band jazz and they are great!Pictures coming soon!

Hasse Fogelberg
